"Okay class turned the page 7 is start at question
5"
I glanced at the message light on the phone of my desk as I
looked around the room to make sure all the kids were on the right page.
Every time the light flashed it was a reminder of my new
online dating life.
It was nothing like I anticipated; I was expecting to post
my profile in the site would do its chemistry match thing and find me the man
of my dreams. You know like those “Match.com” commercials, but that thought
like those tampon commercials with ladies frolicking through the meadows was
unrealistic.
"Ms. Wright, Ms. WRIGHT!" the students yelled in
unison.
I looked up from my
daze. "Oh yes.”
"The bell rang" John stated as if he was the class
spokesperson.
"Yes. You're dismissed remember study this weekend
there will be a test on Monday"
I picked up the phone from my desk as my students gathered
their items and hurried out of the classroom. All except my "IT" girl crew, that
gravitated to me for advice and guidance.
"Dang Mz. Right Hand is that your Boo blowing you
up!" Tosha was the smallest but the loudest of all my girls. Tosha had
dubbed me "Mz. Right Hand" at the beginning of the school year
because she joked my pimp hand was strong in the classroom.
"Uhm, no little Ms. Nosy and why are you girls still
here." I said slightly rolling my eyes and neck mocking them.
"We just one say BYE favorite teacher" Shanda
replied.
"And to see if you’re
coming to our step
show!" Tina finished Shanda's statement.
"Don't I always try to come?!" I smiled.
"All right just checking" Tosha intervened.
"Bye girls" I waved as the girls jumped off my
desk and hurried out the classroom.
Once the room totally emptied out I looked at the screen
will more time "1 new message"
Now when I decided to try to online dating I have felt like
it had to be easier and a better alternative than club scene, which had lost
its luster when I was much younger and more so when my former students were
resurfacing in the same venue. I had heard the urban myths and tales of matches
made, marriage and kids to follow you know how that goes. So with the nagging
support of my friends I figured what the hell.
I'll never forget my first time.

"Okay a picture" I took out the clip that was
holding my hair in a soft bun and let my
long time wavy curls cascade softly around my caramel toned face. I looked at
myself, lip-gloss and a little eyeliner to accent my hazel colored eyes.
"Okay perfect!" I quickly snapped the picture and uploaded it to the
site. "Done” I sighed as I began to browse through the other users’
profiles.
"Gross..... Not bad..... REALLY!"
(Ring Ring)
"Whatup, Whatup, Whatup!" Justice smooth jovial
voice chanted.
Justice and I was that exclusive platonic friendship most
couldn't understand, especially when you saw Justice. 6'3" brown skin,
strong model features with a matching body; piercing deep blue eyes, a rarity
for black men and a smile that can only be described as sex. So let's just say
he was that” Dude”.
"What's the deal” I gave that the routine response.
“How’s life in EDU in the big NYC Mr. Principal?!"
"Good. The new charter school is moving along but
stressing me to hell out." he said coughing.
"A pot head principal" I laughed
"Not a pot head, a connoisseur of herbal
supplements." he laughed." These damn kids are bad!"
"Okay admin connoisseur" I joked.
"Anyways Leslie" he interrupted "you find a cyber-man
yet"
“Not yet, but I just got a message. Bye!”
